How to re-work your goals if you've already ditched your resolutions (or really really want to)
Through my work with The Desire Map by Danielle Laporte, I've learned to look at goal setting in a different light. I no longer sit down on January 1st and say that I want to accomplish XYZ this year. And some pretty great things have happened as a result. Last year my words were:
Some of the things that happened last year? I got even more clear on who I am and why I'm here. I have realized my gift of bringing a sense of peace and calming (and that's one of my favorite essential oils!) to my surroundings. I have realized my gift for seeing situations from all angles and coming from a place of non-judgement. I have an affinity for creating safe space for others to transform. I invested in new ways to serve people. I completed the health coaching certification program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (check it out if you've considered a health coaching career http://bit.ly/shellinfokitiin). I completed labor and postpartum doula training, attended a birth and provided care for two moms postpartum. I learned Bamboo Fusion Massage. I learned Ashiatsu massage. I began a program to become an Enneagram coach. I earned an all expenses paid trip to Utah with Young Living. I got healthier than I've been in 6 years. I took up running - I ran a 5k, 10k, and 15k. And I ran the 15k in a bucket list location - Banff, Canada (the most gorgeous place I've seen with my own two eyes). I visited Zion National Park and hiked The Narrows. I made a plan to start paying down debt. And so much more.
Each of these things that I accomplished helped me to meet a feeling on my list. When you choose how you want to feel, you will find that there are SO many ways to get there. I didn't feel like a loser because I set goals that I didn't achieve. I didn't write things down because I "should" or just because it made sense. I became unapologetic about how I really wanted to feel. And I ended the year feeling good about it.
This year, I'm ready for more. 2019 core desired feelings:
I will never look at goal setting the same since finding The Desire Map! I ran a group coaching program using this method, and received a message from one of my clients that said this: "The Desire Map class really set me up on finding a clear path and confidence in myself. I watch almost every post you've done. It's like little doses of inspiration."
I hope this sheds some light on goal setting for you the way it has me.
